It's looking more like Brian Daboll and the Giants will rest key starters against the Eagles on Sunday

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said on Thursday that the team will not make final playing time decisions against the Eagles until Friday night. Of course, by the time Friday night rolls around, Daboll won't have media availability until after the game is in the books, making that a convenient time to claim that those decisions will be made. More likely, the Giants decided days ago who will play on Sunday for the Giants, and how much they'll play. It appears as though some of their best players will get some added rest.

Eagles-Giants Week 18 injury report, with analysis

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a couple of losses to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints, but they should have some key reinforcements returning to the starting lineup soon. Giants at Eagles: Five players to watch

Normally each week, we detail five matchups to watch between the Philadelphia Eagles and their upcoming opponent as a way of highlighting each teams' strengths and weaknesses. The Birds' Week 18 matchup will likely be against backups, as the Giants are already locked into the 6 seed in the NFC playoffs. The Giants could play their starters for a series or two to keep them sharp for the playoffs, but the risk of playing them for four quarters far outweighs the reward. And so, it doesn't make much sense to highlight matchups. The Eagles just need to go out and beat backups. Instead, we'll highlight five Eagles players who could use a good performance heading into the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Wednesday that they have activated the 21-day practice window for S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to return from injured reserve. Gardner-Johnson missed the last four games with a lacerated kidney suffered against the Green Bay Packers.
