Did a New Jersey political candidate rip off Wawa's iconic flying goose logo?

Matt Jenkins, a Democrat running for Congress in New Jersey's Fourth District, received a cease-and-desist letter from Wawa on Sept. 28. The company wants Jenkins to scrub his campaign materials of a logo that features a goose very similar to one that the company formerly trademarked. Jenkins, a long shot against incumbent Chris Smith, said his campaign has limited resources to make a change.

Former Philly police officer charged with sexually abusing children, witness intimidation

Former Philadelphia police officer Patrick Heron, 52, has been charged with sex crimes against children and witness intimidation, District Attorney Larry Krasner said Friday. Heron retired from the police department in 2019. He allegedly communicated online with underage girls, soliciting nude photos from them and having sexually explicit conversations. Heron also allegedly harassed witnesses in an effort to prevent them from reporting his alleged crimes, prosecutors said.

Dr. Audrey Evans, a pioneering childhood cancer researcher at CHOP, dies at 97

Dr. Audrey Evans, the renowned pediatric cancer researcher at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia whose life is the subject of an upcoming film, has died at 97 years old. Evans, a native of England, co-founded the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Philadelphia in 1974. She is considered the "Mother of Neuroblastoma" and is credited with developing a system that has been instrumental in improving treatment options and survival rates of children with the disease. The movie 'Audrey's Children,' which is being filmed in Philadelphia will be released some time in 2023.

SUV used in Roxborough High School shooting found in Southwest Philly parking lot

The Ford Explorer SUV police say was been used in the Sept. 27 shootings outside Roxborough High School was recovered in a parking lot in Southwest Philly. The car had been stolen earlier this year and had a paper Delaware tag as a license plate. Authorities continue to search for five gunmen and the driver of the vehicle. The shooting killed 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde and injured three of his teammates on Roxborough's junior varsity football team, in addition to a 17-year-old victim who police suspect was the target of the gunmen.

Jersey Shore cooling tower, visible from Garden State Parkway, demolished at Beesley's Point

The former B.L. England Power Plant in Upper Township, New Jersey was demolished at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022. The tower had been at the site Beesley's Point since 1974 and was visible from the Garden State Parkway bridge over Great Egg Harbor Bay. Beesley's Point Development Group purchased the shuttered Jersey Shore plant last year and township officials are supportive of a long-term plan to redevelop the site with a possible marina, hotel, restaurants and shops.

WHYY's Marty Moss-Coane, longtime host of 'Radio Times,' to leave program after 35 years

WHYY's Marty Moss-Coane, the longtime host of "Radio Times" at the public FM station in Philadelphia, is leaving the weekday show after 35 years. Moss-Coane's final broadcast will be Nov. 18, 2022. The 73-year-old said she is developing a new show for WHYY that will air once per week.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Wendy's have signed a multi-year deal for a Frosty Freeze-Out promotion similar to the fan favorite arrangement with the Sixers. When the Eagles hold their opponents scoreless through the first quarter both at home and on the road, fans in the tri-state can get a free small Frosty at Wendy's. Fans who have downloaded the official Eagles Mobile App will be able to redeem their free small Frosty the day after the game by showing the in-app offer at participating Wendy’s locations

Week of highs and lows for Elkins Park bakery, business gets featured by CNN then burglarized not long after

Roling's Bakery, a landmark for Jewish families to buy traditional challah bread during the High Holy Days, was burglarized during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The incident occurred after a photo of the bakery's challah bread was featured in a CNN article about the Jewish holidays. Owner Israel Roling thinks the timing is a coincidence and doesn't believe anti-Semitism was a factor. The 51-year-old business lost about $1,500 and a cash register, along with a few other items.

One man dead, one injured in single-engine plane crash in Lehigh County

One person died and a second person was injured Wednesday afternoon when a single-engine plane crashed in Lehigh County, barely missing a nearby home in Salisbury Township, officials said. The Lehigh County coroner reported to the scene along the 1400 block of Keystone Road, where the Piper PA-28 plane crashed in a backyard. The plane went down around 1:45 p.m. after departing from Queen City Airport.

Video shows suspects moments before fatal shooting of Roxborough High School football player, Nicholas Elizalde

The 14-year-old boy who died Tuesday afternoon in an ambush shooting outside Roxborough High School has been identified as Nicholas Elizalde, a student at Walter B. Saul High School who played for the Roxborough football team, Philadelphia police said. Elizalde was one of five boys shot as football players left the school's field following a scrimmage with Northeast High School and Boys Latin Charter School.
