Andrew Wiley, 27, of Philadelphia, has been charged with attempted homicide of a police officer after he allegedly opened fire on a cop on Sunday, Dec. 18 in a parking lot at the King of Prussia Mall. Wiley allegedly attempted to flee the scene of a hit-and-run crash. An Upper Merion police officer shot Wiley in the thigh and ankle before taking him into custody. There were no other injuries reported.

Philip Nordo, a former Philadelphia homicide detective, was sentenced to 24 1/2 to 49 years in prison following his June conviction for sexual assault, rape official oppression and related offenses. Nordo was a 20-year veteran of the police department and was fired in 2017. Nordo used his position of power to intimidate male witnesses and groom them for sexual acts, prosecutors said.

A self-driving shuttle service that connects the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia to SEPTA's NRG Station and Broad Street Line, will be tested by Drexel University researches in 2023. The self-driving shuttle, the first in Pennsylvania, holds nine passengers and a wheelchair. Its technology was developed by Virginia-based Perrone Robotics.

Global insurance firm Chubb will become the anchor tenant of a new 18-story office tower planned at 2000 Arch St. in Center City. The $430 million project, expected to break ground in February 2023, will be the company's largest office building in North America and will be home to about 3,200 employees, including 1,250 new positions. The site, which will be developed in partnership with Parkway Corporation, is currently a surface parking lot. The project has a target completion date in spring 2026.

Stephen Capaldi has been charged with homicide in the death of his wife, 55-year-old Elizabeth Capaldi, who was last seen alive at the couple's Sellersville home on Oct. 10. She was reported missing by her family two days later. Bucks County prosecutors say Stephen Capaldi, 57, strangled Elizabeth and dismembered her body the next day before disposing of some remains in a dumpster. Other remains were found last week after Capaldi was taken into custody and led police to Hog Island in Tinicum Township, near the Philadelphia airport.

Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown plays fantasy football and said that he traded Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce last season in order to get himself on his team. Brown, who was traded from the Titans to the Eagles on draft night, is in the midst of a career year in Philadelphia alongside MVP candidate Jalen Hurts. The fantasy football playoffs start this week in most league formats.

Cooper University Health Care and Cape Regional Health System plan to merge into a single South Jersey system that would include two hospitals, six urgent care centers and more than 130 ambulatory locations across eight counties. The two health systems, based in Camden and Cape May Court House, seek to gain regulatory approval for the merger by early 2024.

A third and final presale for the vinyl edition of "A Philly Special Christmas," the holiday album by Eagles linemen Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16. The albums won't begin shipping until February, but people who order them will get an exclusive postcard in the meantime. The album costs $75. Proceeds benefit Children's Crisis Treatment Center.

Katherine Paprocka, the onetime administrator at Penn Christian Academy in East Norriton, allegedly stole $579,000 form the school. The got the money by allegedly stealing colleagues' identities and forging their signatures, police said. She then spent the money on family vacations, clothing, food, rent, in-vitro fertilization treatments and other personal expenses, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said. Penn Christian Academy shut down as a result of the school's financial issues that resulted.
