Route 420 bridge in Delaware County closes indefinitely due to 'significant' deterioration, PennDOT says

The southbound Route 420 bridge crossing Darby Creek in Delaware County will be closed indefinitely after an inspection revealed significant deterioration to the structure. During the bridge closure, southbound Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) motorists will be directed to use U.S. 13 (Chester Pike), Stewart Avenue and northbound Interstate 95 to access Route 420.

Wawa is planning expansion to Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky within a few years

Wawa, the Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain will open locations in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky in the coming years. Over the next few years, Wawa also will open stores in Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. The chain, which is Pennsylvania's largest private company and the 24th largest in the country, aims to double its store count by 2030. The company currently has about 900 stores in in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.

'Jeopardy!' streak ends at 21 wins for Jersey Shore contestant Cris Pannullo

Ocean City, New Jersey resident Chris Pannullo's 21-game win streak on "Jeopardy!" came to end Tuesday night. Pannullo racked up $748,268 in winnings since the streak started in September. He is No. 6 on the "Jeopardy!" Leaderboard of Legends for consecutive games won and No. 5 for highest winnings during regular-season play. He's also earned a spot in the show's 2023 "Tournament of Champions." Pannullo lost to Andy Tirrell, a political science and international relations professor from San Diego

Who is the 'Boy in the Box?' A look back at the efforts to solve the 1957 homicide in Northeast Philly

Philadelphia police will identify the "Boy in the Box," a child whose body was found in 1957 in a cardboard box in the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philly, on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022. The case of the boy's death has gone unsolved for decades, earning the child the nickname "America's Unknown Boy," but authorities now say DNA analysis has confirmed his identity. The "Criminology" podcast detailed the case in the 2020 episode.

$2.4 million-winning lottery ticket sold at lucky Roxborough gas station, where a $1.3 million ticket was bought last year

A Pennsylvania Lottery Fast Play ticket worth more than $2.4 million was sold last Saturday at the Sunoco gas station at 630 Walnut Lane in Philadelphia's Roxborough neighborhood. The top prize for the Fat Wallet game set a Pennsylvania Lottery record for a Fast Play game. In May 2021, the same Sunoco station sold a winning Extreme Green lottery ticket that was worth $1.3 million.

Proposal for battery-powered train linking West Chester to SEPTA line gets support from borough's leaders

West Chester Council Borough unanimously approved a resolution for SEPTA and Chester County to study the possibility of using battery-powered trains to re-establish a better link between West Chester and Philadelphia. The $16 million proposal calls for a shuttle service between West Chester and SEPTA's newly opened Wawa Station in Delaware County, where passengers would transfer to SEPTA's Regional Rail line to get to Center City.

Rosy's Cafe opens in Rittenhouse with Mexican-inspired breakfast tacos, specialty coffee

Rosy's Cafe, a new Mexican spot for breakfast tacos and coffee, opened at 2218 Walnut St. in Center City. The shop is next to Rosy's Taco Bar and will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu at Rosy's Cafe features simple breakfast and lunch dishes that range between $6-$13, including burritos and tortas. The coffee comes from independent Philadelphia roaster OX.

With 'tranq dope' afflicting more drug users, Philly steps up overdose response training and wound care

Xylazine, a veterinary sedative used on horses and cattle, has become entrenched as a recreational drug laced into Philadelphia's supply of fentanyl. The drug's emergence has altered the way public health officials must respond to opioid overdoses and the skin wounds that the substance causes among people who use xylazine with fentanyl. Also known as tranq, the drug has been found in 90% of the dope samples tested by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, which updated overdose response trainings to better prepare medical providers for the effects of xylazine.

Moorlyn Theatre, Ocean City's historic boardwalk cinema, to reopen under new ownership

The Mooryln 4 Theatre on the Ocean City boardwalk has been acquired by Town Square Entertainment, the same movie theater chain that his cinemas in Ventnor and Stone Harbor. The company plans to renovate and reopen the property, which has not operated as a theater since 2018. The Moorlyn Theatre first opened as a movie theater in 1922. It was previously was a bowling alley.

Comcast customers' cable and internet bills poised to increase. Here's why

Comcast's cable TV and internet customers will see a national average increase of 3.8% on their bills beginning in December 2022 and heading into 2023. Most of the price changes come from rising TV broadcast and regional sports network fees. In the Philadelphia market, the TV broadcast fee will increase approximately 11.2% from $19.15 to $21.30 per month. The regional sports network fee in Philadelphia will climb 65 cents from $12.70 to $13.35, an increase of just over 5%. The monthly cost to rent a modem will increase by $1, from $14 to $15.
