'Unprovoked' killing of recent Temple grad caught on surveillance video, police say

Philadelphia police are offering a $20,000 reward to find the gunman responsible for killing 23-year-old Everett Beauregard, a recent Temple University graduate who was shot in West Philadelphia near Drexel University early Thursday morning. Investigators said the shooting was unprovoked. Police shared a surveillance video that shows the suspect shooting Beauregard along the 400 block of North 35th Street.

Parents sue Walmart, hoverboard maker over Pa. house fire that killed 2 girls

Walmart and hoverboard manufacturer Jetson Electric Bikes have been sued by the parents of two Pennsylvania girls who died in an April 1, 2022 fire at their home in Hellertown, Lehigh County. Jen and Damien Kaufman claim the companies failed to provide warnings about the fire hazards of the hoverboards. The fire claimed the lives of 15-year-old Briana Baer and 10-year-old Abigail Kaufman. The Jetson Rogue scooter allegedly caught fire in one of the girls' second-floor bedrooms. The U.S. Consumer Protection Safety Board cites at least 250 fire incidents relating to hoverboards and has recalled several models due to safety risks related to lithium ion batteries.

El Toro roller coaster at Six Flags closed indefinitely after discovery of structural damage

The El Toro roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey will be closed indefinitely in the wake of an Aug. 25 malfunction that injured 14 people, including five who were hospitalized. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs determined that multiple wooden track support columns are structurally compromised. The roller coaster opened in 2006 and is popular for its 176-foot drop and speeds up to 70 mph.

Driver charged in South Jersey hit-and-run that injured teen, killed horse

A man has been arrested for allegedly striking a horse and teenager with his pickup truck in Franklin Township, New Jersey, on Sept. 13. The collision killed the horse and seriously injured the 14-year-old girl, who was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. The driver was identified as 51-year-old Joseph Devitis, of Upper Pittsgrove in Salem County.

Worker found dead in kettle cooker at South Jersey food processing plant

An employee at the Lassonde Pappas and Company plant in Upper Deerfield, New Jersey, was found dead in a kettle cooker on Monday morning. The man was identified as 63-year-old Dale Devilli. The company said Devilli was killed in an accident, but did not provide further details. Authorities do not suspect foul play and an OSHA investigation is underway.

Crozer Health to shut down emergency department at Delaware County Memorial Hospital

Crozer Health plans to close the emergency department at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill and will adjust services at Springfield Hospital as part of a transformation plan announced by the health system on Wednesday. Crozer Health has struggled financially for years and has seen its challenges grow during the COVID-19 pandemic. The system was acquired in 2016 by for-profit Prospect Medical Holdings, which has faced mounting scrutiny from lawmakers in Delaware County.

Dad Vail Regatta moves to Cooper River in 2023 due to Schuylkill River dredging project

The prestigious Dad Vail Regatta rowing competition will be staged on the Cooper River in New Jersey when it returns for its 84th year in 2023. The event is traditionally held on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, but the dredging of the National Course will prevent the regatta from being held there next year. The collegiate competition is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken.

Carluccio's Coal Fired Pizza in Northfield, New Jersey will appear on an episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives: Triple D Nation" on the Food Network at 9 p.m. on Sept. 23. The restaurant opened in 2012 and last appeared on Fieri's show in 2015, when the celebrity restaurateur gave rave reviews to the stuffed gnocchi and Pappardelle Alla Siciliana.
