St. Leo Church demolished in Northeast Philadelphia after fire

St. Leo Church in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia was destroyed in a 2-alarm fire on Sunday, May 9, 2021. No injuries were reported. The historic Catholic church was built in 1884 and merged with nearby Our Lady of Consolation in 2013 before it was formally closed in 2018.

Pennsylvania district attorney pleads guilty, resigns amid sexual misconduct charges

Bradford County District Attorney Chad Salsman has resigned and pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an investigation of coercive sexual misconduct towards clients of his when he was a private attorney. Five women told a grand jury that they were pressured into sex at Salsman's office and later threatened not to disclose what happened.

Philly police will collaborate with ATF to speed up shooting investigations

The Philadelphia Police Department, ATF and U.S. Attorney's Office have teamed up on an initiative that will empower investigators with enhanced ballistics examination technology. The ATF will provide a National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) van and trained personnel to improve how crime scenes are processed.

Penn State University will construct a new $85 million Palmer Museum of Art to replace the existing structure on the State College campus. The new 71,000-square-foot facility, located within the Arboretum, will include additional educational, activity and gallery space .

Astrophysicist captures images of Chinese rocket core set to crash to Earth

The Virtual Telescope Project has captured photos of the massive core of China's Long March 5B rocket. The space debris, which was the main stage of the rocket's launcher, detached and went into an uncontrolled orbit around Earth after the April 29 launch. The remnants are expected to crash somewhere on the planet on Sunday, May 9.

Giant plans Center City Heirloom Market and three other Philly locations

The Giant Company will bring Philadelphia's fourth Heirloom Market to the former Strawbridge's department store building at 801 Market St. in Center City. The company also plans to construct large supermarkets at three residential development projects across the city over the next few years.
