SEPTA has awarded a $724.3 million contract to Hitachi Rail for 200 new railcars for the Market-Frankford subway line. The new fleet is expected to be delivered by the end of 2031, with the first of the railcars arriving in 2029. The subway cars will have capacity for more passengers, digital signage and longitudinal seating.

Michael Vahey, 68, has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol for the July 17 crash that killed 30-year-old CHOP doctor Barbara Friedes on her bike near Rittenhouse Square. Vahey allegedly was speeding and had a blood-alcohol concentration twice the legal limit, prosecutors said.

Fuel from a gas pump at the Wawa in Richboro, Bucks County, has been linked to multiple cars breaking down since drivers filled up their tanks there last week. The issue has prompted an investigation by the Bucks County Consumer Protection office. Wawa could be on the hook to pay for expensive repairs from claims submitted to its Fuel Quality Guarantee program.
