Owls aren't just known for their business savvy. They can put on quite a show too.
The theater blog OnStage, a criticism website dedicated to Broadway and community theater, has been releasing its lists of the most underrated collegiate theater programs in the country, broken down by region. On Saturday, the site published its choices for most underrated schools in the Northeast.
Topping the list was Temple University. Here was OnStage's reasoning:
What is it about Temple's theatre program that makes it the most underrated program in the Northeast? Is it that in addition to the two fully equipped theaters, they offer a sprung floor rehearsal hall, several rehearsal studios, a scene shop, a costume shop, a light lab and a recording studio?
Is it that they are located in the heart of Philadelphia? Is it their exclusive study abroad program in London? Is it that they perform boundary pushing material, even for college theatre such as, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Arcadia and The Matchmaker? Is it that they have an impressive list of alumni such as Da'Vine Joy Randolph and William Marchant?
Truth is, it's all of the above.
Of the notable performers to pass through Temple's program, Randolph's success is the most recent. A 2009 graduate, she received a Tony nomination for her role as Oda Mae Brown in the 2012 original production of Ghost the Musical, which was based off the 1990 film of the same name.
