Surveillance video shows Philly recycling worker swiping package from stoop

A video circulating on social media appears to show a city recycling truck worker snagging a package outside a house in Philadelphia.

The video, posted to Facebook late Thursday night by Joyce Harris Dillon, shows the worker grabbing a full recycling bin from a stoop, then reaching to swipe the package from the doorstep.

The worker then throws the contents of the bin and the package into the back of the truck. Another angle from the footage shows the worker wait until the truck moves ahead to grab the package out of the rest of the recycling and bring it toward the front of the vehicle.

Dillon wrote on Facebook that her neighbor asked her to check on a package Amazon had delivered. When it wasn't there, she checked her security cameras.

The video, which has been shared more than 3,500 times and viewed nearly 150,000 times, can be viewed below.

Dillon did not respond to a request for an interview Friday morning. It is unclear where the incident took place, although Dillon's Facebook profile says she is from Fishtown.

Contacted about the video, city spokeswoman Crystal Jacobs Shipman said the Streets Department was made aware of the "unfortunate incident" last night.

"The Department takes these matters very seriously, and has begun a full investigation of the matter," Shipman said.

"Appropriate action in accordance with the law, and regulations of Department, are being addressed with the employees involved," she added. "Such action could include termination, and forwarding the matter to law enforcement officials, should the findings warrant."
