Circus performer plummets 30 feet at West Philadelphia show

A trapeze artist performing during a traveling circus show in West Philadelphia Saturday afternoon fell 30 feet into a crowd of onlookers, police said.

According to authorities, 19-year-old Chenglong Wu, performing with Universoul Circus, was in the middle of the Wuhan Flying Trapeze act of China when he fell into the first row of the crowd around 4 p.m., NBC 10 reports.

The event, held under a big top nearby the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, features animal acts, pyrotechnics and acrobatics.

Wuhan was transported to Penn Presbyterian Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

No audience members were injured and the show continued as planned.
