The City of Philadelphia has announced a text alert system that will provide real-time information to mobile subscribers for the duration of the World Meeting of Families and Pope Francis' visit.

Using a Nixle public safety alert system, the city will push updates related to weather, emergencies, travel, and traffic information.

“If you are planning to attend this historic event, we encourage you to sign up for text alerts for the Pope’s visit to get real time information of importance,” said Samantha Phillips, Director of Emergency Management in Philadelphia . “Having peace of mind is part of enjoying the event.”

To enroll, simply text "papalvisit" to 888777 and you will be registered to receive the updates.

For those interested in receiving timely local alerts year round, Philadelphia's Office of Emergency Management has implemented a new system, ReadyPhiladelphia, which provides public safety updates that can be targeted to specific locations through the city.
