Geno's, Saxbys added to list of SugarHouse Casino tenants

Iconic cheesesteak spot among seven new restaurants in casino expansion

The experience at Fishtown's SugarHouse Casino is in for several major enhancements as the details of a $164 million expansion continue to come into focus.

Shortly after a topping off ceremony in August, SugarHouse announced that its official caterer and first new restaurant – one of seven total – will be Chicago-based steakhouse Hugo's Frog Bar & Chop House. Just in case steak alone isn't enough for Philadelphians, the casino plans to add one of the city's most iconic cheesesteak spots, Geno's Steaks.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Geno's is one of three local vendors to be included in the 150,000-square foot expansion, more than doubling the casino's size to 260,000-square feet since ground was broken in July 2014.

Geno's will join Saxbys and Tacconelli's Pizzeria in SugarHouse's new food and beverage area known as the Marketplace, which will feature a large eating area with seating on the casino floor.

The new Geno's will be the third in Philadelphia and will serve all of the staples as well as breakfast items, owner Geno Vento confirmed. For Saxbys, the new location will be the coffee franchise's 33rd overall after its recent debut in University City at 40th and Locust streets.

The SugarHouse dining expansion, which will include dozens of new table games, poker tables and hundreds of additional slot machines, is part of a push to entice customers with non-gaming amenities. A soft opening for the casino is expected in December and other additional restaurants are expected to open throughout January.
