When your doctor orders lab work, an X-ray, or some other health service, is your first thought, “How much is this gonna cost me?” You’re certainly not alone.

It’s an important thing to consider, and the cost differences between individual health care providers and service locations can amount to hundreds of dollars.

Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for the bill to know how much you’ll pay for care if you’re an Independence Blue Cross (Independence) member.

Avoid Surprises and Save Money

Higher cost doesn’t always mean better care. Members can use Independence’s Care Cost Estimator to estimate out-of-pocket costs before scheduling a doctor’s appointment or medical procedure. Estimates are based on the member’s specific health plan.

You can compare the costs of different providers in your network and choose the one that is best for you — for your health needs and budget. You can also use the Care Cost Estimator to:

• Get estimates for a range of costs associated with a procedure
• View your deductible contributions to date
• See the average price of a service
