The International Cheese & Wine Festival will serve more than 100 cheeses and more than 100 wines at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on Oct. 10-11.
There are worse ways to spend a fall weekend than working through a tray of cheese with a glass of wine in hand. The International Cheese & Wine Festival will bring more than 100 cheeses and more than 100 wines to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks on Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11. Tickets start at $47.37, including fees, and the event is limited to attendees 21 and older.
Each ticket includes unlimited samples, a wineglass and a miniature tray built to carry cheese and wine at the same time. Attendees can wander among tasting stations serving flights devoted to varieties such as cheddar, goat cheese, brie-style cheese and blue cheese.
The cheese flights will be color-coded to show their suggested wine or nonalcoholic pairings. Nonalcoholic alternatives will be offered with every pairing, making it possible to follow the full tasting without drinking alcohol.
Pennsylvania wineries, cideries and breweries also will be represented. Bottles and cans will be available to purchase, and participating cheesemakers will sell products to take home.
Additional seminars will dig further into what makes a pairing work. Sommelier Alexandra Cherniavsky will lead an introductory cheese-and-wine session at 12:30 p.m. and a Pennsylvania-focused pairing class at 3:30 p.m. each day. Seminar admission costs extra.
General admission begins at noon and costs $52.64, including fees. A $47.37 ticket provides entry beginning at 2 p.m. VIP admission costs $84.26, including fees, and includes entry at 11 a.m. and access to an additional pairing area. The same options are available Saturday and Sunday.
