Handgun.

A 9-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound to the left hand after police say he found a loaded gun in his South Philadelphia home and accidentally shot himself, NBC10 reports.

Police were called to the home on 32nd Street near Dickinson Street in the Grays Ferry section of the city just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10 that the child found the loaded gun between a bed and a wall in a bedroom. The gun discharged while the boy was playing with it, he said.

The boy was taken by family to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is expected to be OK. There are no current charges pending against his family, NBC10 reports.
