Pennsylvania couple charged in alleged assault of infant

Two Pennsylvania parents are facing multiple charges after authorities say they assaulted their three-week-old infant, who was found to have endured serious injuries while undergoing a medical examination.

According to state police, 32-year-old Aaron J. Mills and 22-year-old Stephanie D. McGuire, of Osceola Mills in Clearfield County, inflicted the injuries on the newborn between Feb. 26 and Feb. 28, PennLive reports.

Investigators said Mcguire brought the child to a family doctor to evaluated for a case of diaper rash. During an examination, the doctor discovered that the baby had suffered corner fractures of both femurs, a bruised nose and facial abrasions, a fractured rib, a rectal tear and anal prolapse, among other injuries.

Officials said the infant was taken to Geisinger Medical Center to be treated for her injuries and will remain in the emergency custody of the county's children and youth services division.

Mills is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal conspiracy, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia. McGuire has been charged with conspiracy, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The father and mother are both being held at Clearfield County Prison. Mills' bail is set at $100,000, while McGuire's bail is $50,000.
