Reports: Target signs lease for Northern Liberties location

The retailer will reportedly be moving into a space at Fifth and Spring Garden streets

A fifth Target location may soon be opening in Philadelphia as reports suggest the retailer has signed a long-term lease at Fifth and Spring Garden streets in the city's Northern Liberties neighborhood.

According to Philly.com, the store is expected to open in the former Destination Maternity headquarters warehouse, a space that will presumably be shared by Yards Brewery, which has previously announced plans to move there.

Philly.com adds that Alliance HSP, which owns the warehouse property, said in a release Monday that the Minneapolis-based retailer has signed a lease for 47,791 square feet of retail space, with plans to open the store sometime around July 2018.

In related news, a recent court filing also suggests Target is eyeing a space for one of its "flexible-format" smaller stores in the Lincoln Square project at South Broad Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia.
