The iconic sign at the main gate entrance of the Philadelphia Zoo welcomes its 1.2 million annual visitors.

The Philadelphia Zoo has announced a new 5K race. Run Wild for the Zoo will take place on April 30. Individual registration, which is currently open, is $45.

The fee includes a commemorative race T-shirt, same-day admission to the zoo with re-entry, a finisher medal and race-day activities.

Participants are invited to run or walk on the course that winds through the zoo's grounds. Runners will race past animal enclosures as many are waking up for the morning.

Proceeds from Run Wild for the Zoo will go toward providing nutrition, habitat enhancements, medical care and enrichment activities for the zoo animals.
