Six rescued in fire at Ocean City home

A home in Ocean City after being damaged by a fire that broke out on the first floor.

Firefighters rescued six people after a blaze broke out in an Ocean City home early Sunday morning.

According 6 ABC, the fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. on the 900 block of St. Charles Place. The homeowner came downstairs and discovered the fire in the first floor of his home, calling 911 after failing to put it out himself.

The Ocean City Fire and Rescue Services said in a Facebook Post that crews were able to rescue six people trapped in the upper balconies of the home and extinguish the fire.

Seven people were taken to the local hospital and were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries. NBC Philadelphia reports that a firefighter was among those injured. He was treated for a laceration to his arm from broken glass and was released. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
