Southwest Airlines announced on Thursday it will introduce one-way fares as low as $69 to fly from Philadelphia to Fort Lauderdale next summer.

The company unveiled sweeping plans for new destinations in the Caribbean and U.S. and the addition of more non-stop service between cities coast to coast.

For travelers on a budget in Philadelphia, the announcement comes with news that could help you plan an affordable Florida vacation.

From Thursday through Jan. 26, travelers can book cheap flights from Philly to Fort Lauderdale for trips taking place between June 4 through Aug. 14. For international trips originating from Fort Lauderdale, the fare applies to flights between June 6 through Aug. 9.

Domestic travel is blacked out for these fares from June 30 through July 9. To get the low fares, flights must be booked on Tuesdays or Wednesdays during these respective periods.

"Southwest is investing heavily throughout Florida, growing its domestic and international reach to meet the demands of its customers," the company said, touting the near-completion of a new international concourse at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

With the introduction of the international concourse in Fort Lauderdale, these fares could also help cut the cost of a planned international trip this summer, depending on how travelers plan their flights.
