Republican truck driver Ed Durr pulls off improbable upset over N.J. Senate President Steve Sweeney

Republican New Jersey state Senate candidate Ed Durr defeated longtime Senate President Steve Sweeney, who has held the Third District seat in South Jersey since 2004. Durr, a truck driver, was not expected to pose a serious challenge to Sweeney, a key power broker in New Jersey politics. The Logan Township resident spent less than $10,000 on his campaign.

New Jersey voters reject expansion of college sports betting

New Jersey voters decided against a ballot issue that would have permitted sports betting on in-state college athletics programs and events. The issue was turned down by 56% percent of voters with more than 97% of precincts reporting. A second ballot issue was approved by more than 64% of voters to allow non-profits to use money raised from games of chance to support their operations.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' gets Season 15 premiere date

FXX comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will return for Season 15 on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. The premiere will mark the first new episodes of the long-running comedy in more than two years. The show went on hiatus during the coronavirus pandemic, but still is under contract for four more seasons and will come back with high expectations next month.

Police investigating two suspicious deaths near Lincoln University

A Lincoln University man has been identified as a suspect in two suspicious deaths in Lower Oxford Township on Wednesday morning, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office. The adults were found in cardiac arrest and later died at the scene along Ashmun Avenue. The case remains under investigation with Pennsylvania State Police, Kennett Square police and the D.A.'s office.

Watch The War on Drugs' NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Philadelphia-based rock band The War on Drugs performed songs from their new album, "I Don't Live Here Anymore," for NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series. The band will begin its U.S. tour early next year with stops at The Met Philadelphia on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28.

81-year-old Delco pharmacist accused of trading painkillers for sexual favors

Martin Brian, an 81-year-old pharmacist in Media, is facing criminal charges for allegedly distributing opioid painkillers and other drugs to women in return for sexual favors, Delaware County prosecutors said. Brian owns Murray-Hill Pharmacy on State Street.

Cape May Point retreat St. Mary by-the-Sea to become nature center

The historic St. Mary by-the-Sea retreat in Cape May Point will be preserved as a science education center after more than century in the hands of the Philadelphia-based religious order Sisters of St. Joseph. The retreat permanently closed earlier this year. A new nonprofit, the Cape May Point Science Center Inc., has stepped in to preserve the three buildings on the site.
