Police are searching for Kadafi Fleming, 19, for his alleged role in a fatal shooting in June and his attempted robbery of a Philadelphia police officer's vehicle Monday morning.
A man who's wanted in connection to the fatal shooting of a Penn State University student in June attempted to steal the car of an off-duty Philadelphia police officer early Monday morning, U.S. Marshals said.
Authorities are offering a reward to help locate Kadafi Fleming, 19 — the older brother of Azzubair Outen-Fleming, 16, who was arrested last month and charged in the death of Billy Schmidt, 22.
Just after 3 a.m. Monday, Fleming and another man allegedly pushed the officer's Dodge Charger around the block and tried to start the vehicle, 6ABC reported. The officer then located them at 70th Street and Waxwing Place and fired multiple shots at the men. Fleming and the other suspect drove away in a red Lexus, which was reported stolen a few days prior, before exiting that car and driving away in a blue Lexus, which was also reported stolen.
U.S. Marshals said Fleming is wanted for robbery for the carjackings and is thought to be involved in the killing of Schmidt, who had been out at a bar on June 6 and was a block from his home when he was approached by two teens who stole his cellphone. Kaiseem Smith, 16, of Wilmington, allegedly shot Schmidt in the chest.
Smith and Outen-Fleming were seen on surveillance footage near the area of the shooting. Outen-Fleming was taken into custody in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in July and Smith turned himself in the following day. Both face charges of murder, robbery and weapons offenses. Outen-Fleming's stepfather, Dante Abdul-Malik, 35, has also been arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension.
Fleming is accused of being the getaway driver in a stolen car after the fatal shooting of Schmidt. He has been wanted since July and faces multiple charges including robbery, conspiracy, theft and obstruction of justice.
