Market Street block to be named for pioneering Black banker Emma Chappell

The 700 block of Market Street in Philadelphia also will be known as Emma Chappell Way to honor Emma Chappell, the first Black woman to establish a bank in Philadelphia. Chappell, who died at 80 in 2021, also was the treasurer for Jesse Jackson's presidential campaign in 1984.

Former Philly detective sentenced to at least 2 1/2 years in prison for coercing confession in 2010 homicide case

James Pitts, a former detective for the Philadelphia Police Department, was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison, District Attorney Larry Krasner said Tuesday. He was convicted last year of physically forcing a false confession from a suspect in a 2010 robbery and lying under oath about his interrogation tactics.
