Philly is exploring adding concrete barriers to bike lanes on Spruce and Pine streets, official says

Philadelphia is considering changes to its bike lanes on Spruce and Pine streets, including possibly adding concrete barriers to separate the designated bike paths from the rest fo the roadway and adding new signage. The Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia has been pressuring the city for safety improvements since Dr. Barbara Friedes was struck and killed while biking on the 1800 block of Spruce Street on July 17.

The Market Street ramp to Interstate 95 South will be closed from Sept. 11-22 so the Philadelphia Water Department can complete sewer improvements. Motorists will be detoured to Columbus Boulevard and the Morris Street ramp to I-95.

The Gloucester County Historical Society is hosting a book sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22. More than 1,500 books dating back to the mid-1800s will be priced at $2-25. The organization is selling duplicates and other books that are not directly relevant to the county's history.

Police seek 2 gunmen who shot 4 people in Kensington on Tuesday night

Four people were shot by at least two gunman who fired at least 25 shots after exiting a car on G Street in Kensington at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Philadelphia police said. A 20-year-old man is in critical condition. Police are looking for a four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota, that fled northbound on G Street.

PHA to purchase and repair deteriorating Brith Sholom House in West Philly

The Brith Sholom House in Wynnefield Heights will be sold to the Philadelphia Housing Authority for $24 million under a deal approved by a Court of Common Pleas judge on Monday. The deteriorating senior housing complex had been placed under receivership after its owners defaulted on their loan last year.

Temple University's marching band was selected to participate in the 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the school announced Sunday. The band, which will march the two-mile route in New York City in its 100th anniversary year, was one of nine groups selected from over 100 applicants.

Woman, 41, fatally shot while trying to break up fight in Kensington, police say

A woman was fatally shot on Kensington Avenue after she attempted to break up a fight outside a convenience store early Monday morning, Philadelphia police said. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the shooter's arrest and conviction.
