Video: Malfunctioning escalator tosses Flyers fans onto arena lobby

Fans exiting Wells Fargo Center thrown into pile after escalator speeds up

A malfunctioning escalator tossed several fans onto the lobby of the Wells Fargo Center Saturday after the Flyers' victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Meghan McGreevy was at the game and posted a video of the incident to social media. Here's the video, via NBC10:

McGreevy told NBC10 the escalator suddenly sped up as fans were taking it after the game had ended.

A Broad Street Hockey reader told the website that when the escalator started to accelerate, fans were thrown into a pile at the bottom of the arena, with several having to go to first aid.

Colin Mehalick, a writer for the Flyers blog, said there didn't appear to be any serious injuries.

Ike Richman, a spokesperson for Comcast Spectacor, issued the following statement:

The comfort and safety of our guests is our number one concern. Immediately following today's game an incident did occur involving one of our escalators. We immediately closed it down to protect our patrons and notified the operator. We are working with the operator on investigating this incident.
Richman noted that the escalator was not used for a Sixers game later that night but it is expected to be up and running for a Rihanna concert Sunday night.
