A brutal winter has hammered the Philadelphia region these past few months, with multiple snowstorms and record low temperatures causing traffic nightmares and frequent school closings.

The sheer amount of snow has been above average:

But this week, some relief, at least with the cold, is on the way.

Temperatures will rise to a high of 46 degrees on Sunday with mostly sunny skies, the weather service says. That trend will continue through the week, with a high of 55 degrees on Wednesday, making it the warmest day of the year.

Approach your optimism with caution, though. There's a small chance of snow Friday.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
