Spring Lake, New Jersey Police rescue people after boat crash.

Two men and a woman were rescued by police who dived into the ocean to look for people reportedly trapped after a 24-foot fishing boat crashed into a jetty near the Newark Avenue beach in Spring Lake, New Jersey.

According to the Asbury Park Press, at least seven people were initially believed to be in the water and trapped under the boat, police officials said. Spring Lake patrolmen Sean Duggan, Michael Palmer Jr. and Emmett Smith stripped their uniforms and dove into the water, but the initial report was wrong and only the three people on the boat were involved in the accident.

The boat’s pilot, Thomas McGinley, 52, of Toms River, has been arrested and charged with boating under the influence pending the results of a toxicology report, police said.
