"I love scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly," declared Ron Burgundy, the lovably idiotic protagonist in the 2004 comedy "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."
If you feel the same way about this Scottish malt whiskey as Ron, feel free to pour some on the rocks today for National Scotch Day, another holiday clearly invented by the alcohol industry.
For drinkers who crave something a bit more complicated, here's the recipe for Blood and Sand, a classic cocktail popularized by the 1922 bullfighting film of the same name. This one comes courtesy of Rex 1516 on South Street.
Blood and Sand
3/4 oz. Laphroaig 12 year
3/4 oz. Cherry Heering
3/4 oz. fresh squeezed orange juice
3/4 oz. Carpano Antica sweet vermouth
This is shaken and strained into a coupe and garnished with a flamed orange peel.
