In recent weeks, there have been different accounts of what Philadelphia Eagles DE Chris Long's contract status is for the 2019 NFL season. Some have said he's a free agent. Others believe there is some kind of player or team option. And yet others wonder if there's something cool I don't even know about.
I've gotten to the bottom of it, and it's not that complicated. Long signed a two-year deal in 2017, but then signed a new deal in 2018 that added an extra year in 2019. He is under contract through the 2019 season.
His cap numbers, per OverTheCap:
As you can see, he is scheduled to count for $5,600,000 against the cap in 2019.
So there you go.
