Eastern State Penitentiary on Fairmount Avenue was built in 1829 and is open to the public as a U.S. National Historic Landmark.

The next Philly Flea will take place on Sept. 10 in Fairmount, outside Eastern State Penitentiary. More than 150 vendors selling furniture, art, vintage finds, jewelry and other knickknacks will be set up at the outdoor shopping event.

The flea market will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those who want to make a full day out of it can shop then tour Eastern State.

The Penitentiary is open daily, beginning at 10 a.m. General admission tickets are $14 per person, with discounts available for children, students and seniors.

The historic prison was one of the most famous in the world. Notable inmates who served time there include gangster Alphonse "Scarface" Capone and notorious bank robber William Francis Sutton.
