In the midst of a flurry of new fashion retailers setting up camp on Chestnut Street (hey there, Forever 21), The Shade Store is bucking the trend.

The Shade Store's Vice President of Showrooms Lisa McClelland confirmed to PhillyVoice.com that the high-end, custom window-shade store will come to 1725 Chestnut St. in mid-April as part of an expansion that has the family-run, Mount Vernon, New York-originated business opening 20 new stores nationwide in 2015.

So, why Philly -- and why Chestnut Street?

"For starters, we simply love the Philly market and are well aware of all it has to offer," McClelland said. "For years, we have been doing significant business online and by phone in the Greater Philly area, and we finally found the right location and felt it was time to open a showroom. The location's great -- with fashion-savvy customers and co-tenants like Bo Concept."

She also cited the two-story layout of the space as ideal for the showroom, which, she said, stands out by offering "unprecedented" access to the store's workspaces. (The company's far from modest about its luxury standards -- the website labels The Shade Store showrooms as "world-class.") She said the space is particularly geared toward interior designers and architects; an opening event will be held for new customers and local designers closer to the store's opening.

This will be the first The Shade Store location to open in Pennsylvania.
