'These are human beings': Philly officials settle new migrants bused from Texas

Since Nov. 16, Four buses with a total of more than 200 migrants have arrived in Philadelphia from Del Rio, Texas, each unannounced by Texas officials.The latest were two buses that got to 30th Street Station the day after Thanksgiving. Immigration officials have decried the political and 'totally unnecessary' lack of communication from Texas Gov. Abbott as they scramble to settle the new immigrants.

Wawa's rival Sheetz offers gas discount through Thanksgiving week

Sheetz is discounting unleaded 88 gasoline, selling it for $1.99 per gallon through Nov. 28, just in time for Americans who take to the roads for Thanksgiving travel. Wawa has an ongoing promotion and is reducing its gas prices 15 cents per gallon for fuel purchased through their app now through Nov. 30.

Philadelphia Orchestra performs the music of 'Home Alone' this weekend

Broadway's Tina Turner musical opens at the Academy of Music

"TINA: the Tina Turner Musical" begins its national tour in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. The jukebox musical includes hits like "Proud Mary" and "The Best." It will run from Nov. 22 to Dec. 4. Tickets are available at the Kimmel Cultural Campus's website.

Amazon launches online health clinic for common conditions. Who will use it?

Amazon Clinic, a new message-based telehealth service, is now available in 32 states, treating common conditions like acne, dandruff, allergies, erectile dysfunction, UTIs, pink eye, cold sores, hair loss and heartburn. It's the latest company to enter the expanding telehealth market, but it remains to be seen who it attracts, and whether it can provide cost-effective and quality care.

Some Philadelphia police roles now can be given to civilian workers

An arbitration deal between Philadelphia and Fraternal Order of the Police allows civilians to take roles previously held by police officers, including jobs in traffic regulation, abandoned car removal, mail delivery, crime scene investigation and evidence examination. A few Philly high school students are learning to fly as part of a program that's finally getting off the ground

Frankford High School in Philadelphia offers students the chance to develop piloting skills through airplane and drone training thanks to a partnership with Tailwinds Flight School. Qualifying teens also may earn private pilot certificates. The program, dubbed the Frankford Aviation Academy, recently returned students to the skies after being temporarily grounded by the COVID-19 pandemic.
