Wawa plans to invade Sheetz territory with 40 new stores in central Pennsylvania

Wawa plans to open up to 40 new stores in central Pennsylvania over the next few years, growing into the territory of rival convenience store chain Sheetz. Wawa is in the midst of the largest expansion in the company's history, with plans to double its store count to around 1,800 by 2030. New stores are planned in the coming years in North Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

A proposal for a six-story luxury condo building called The Ben is being reviewed by the Philadelphia Historical Commission, which has jurisdiction over the site in the Old City Historic District. The proposal at 2nd and Race streets is one of several that have been pursued at the location over the years.

One year after Tired Hands Brewing Co. founder Jean Broillet IV was hit with allegations of workplace sexism and discrimination, the owner of the Ardmore-based craft brewer has resumed his role in daily operations at the company. Broilett, facing major scrutiny, had stepped away last spring as the company and its staff looked to turn a new leaf. The allegations were part of a wider wave of similar allegations last year against leading figures at dozens of breweries in the United States.

Former owner of Mario's Pizzeria in Ocean City pleads guilty to tax evasion

Ernesto Cannuscio, a former owner of Mario's Pizzeria in Ocean City, New Jersey, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to tax evasion. Cannuscio failed to report the restaurant's cash revenue and paid employees off the books, which resulted in him underpaying payroll taxes, federal prosecutors said. Investigators alleged Cannuscio defrauded the IRS of more than $208,000.

Third-degree murder charges dismissed against driver accused of killing two state troopers, third man on I-95 in Philly

A Philadelphia judge has dismissed third-degree murder charges against Jayana Webb, the woman accused of crashing her car on I-95 earlier this year, killing two Pennsylvania State Troopers and a pedestrian. The crash killed Martin F. Mack III, 33, and Branden T. Sisca, 29, two state troopers who were on the highway assisting Reyes Rivera Oliveras, 28. The Philadelphia District Attorney Office's has refiled the third-degree murder charges. Webb is also charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, DUI and related offenses.

Philadelphia indie rock artist Alex G debuted 'Runner,' the latest single from his new album, 'God Save The Animals,' which is due out Sept. 23 on Domino Records. The album is the follow-up to 2019's critically acclaimed House of Sugar. In May, Alex G released the album's first single, 'Blessing.'

Philly, Pa. suburbs could face beer shortage as distributors union strikes ahead of July Fourth

Teamster Local 830, the union representing workers for beer distributors in the Philadelphia region, voted this weekend to go on strike after turning down a proposed contract from the Delaware Valley Importers Distribution Association. The strike, led by workers for three companies — Penn Beer, Origlio Beverage, and Muller Inc. — could result in shortages of big brand domestic beers for the Fourth of July holiday if the labor dispute isn't resolved.

Ex-political candidate in Pennsylvania killed her husband and burned his body, prosecutors say

Evelyn Zigerelli-Henderson, a former political candidate in Pennsylvania, allegedly killed her husband and burned his body at their home in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County prosecutors said. Zigerelli-Henderson, 66, initially claimed Carmen Henderson, 84, took his own life, and then said he died accidentally after he was lit on fire by a cigar, investigators said. Zigerelli-Henderson is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated arson and related offenses, according to court documents.

Watch the demolition of the former FMC smokestack in Delaware County

A smokestack was demolished Tuesday morning on the former site of the FMC/American Viscose plant in Marcus Hook, Delaware County. The 225-foot-tall structure had been there for more than a century. The plant previously made rayon and later cellophane before its closure in the in 1970's. The 30-acre property is expected to be redeveloped into a warehouse complex.
