As 'Concrete Cowboy' hits Netflix, GoFundMe campaigns seek support for Philly horseback riders

The Netflix premiere of "Concrete Cowboy," a film about Philadelphia's Black urban horseback riders, comes as two local organizations are raising money on GoFundMe for projects that will keep the tradition alive. The Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club and the Philadelphia Urban Riding Academy have each launched fundraising campaigns.

Camden family pleads for info on woman's suspicious death in 2009

Stephanie Rosado, 26, disappeared from Camden on Easter Sunday in 2009. Her remains were later found washed up along the Delaware River. Her family, joined by Camden County prosecutors, are hoping to drum up new information in the investigation of her death.

MMA fighter loses his finger during South Philly match on April Fools' Day

Khetag Pliev, an MMA fighter and professional boxer, had his finger severed from his hand during a bout at the CFFC 94 event in Philadelphia on April 1, 2021. The fight was held at 2300 Arena. Pliev lost the fight by TKO, but the finger was found inside his glove and later reattached at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Philly police inspector, former detective charged in off-duty assault that occurred last summer

Philadelphia Police Inspector James Smith, a 30-year veteran of the department, and his older brother, Patrick Smith, a former police detective, were charged Thursday with assaulting a man with Asperger's syndrome while off-duty on Aug. 19, 2020. An internal affairs investigation determined that the pursuit happened without cause and violated department policy.

Pennsylvania to make COVID-19 vaccine available to everyone 16 and older on April 19

Pennsylvania will expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all residents ages 16 and older on April 19, 2021. The state is moving to Phase 1B on April 5 and Phase 1C on April 12. Philadelphia, which has its own vaccine guidelines, will instead aim to have vaccines available to everyone by May 1.

Aaron Hirschhorn, the 42-year-old founder of DogVacay and Gallant, died in a boating accident in Miami Beach on March 28, 2021. Hirschhorn appeared on ABC's "Shark Tank" in 2019 and secured an investment from Lori Greiner and Anne Wojcicki. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended Swarthmore College.
