The Exchange in downtown Lancaster offers private dining inside heated rooftop globes that accommodate two to eight people. Two-hour rentals cost $100, with food and drinks purchased separately.

Rooftop dining is usually something people associate with warmer weather, but a restaurant in downtown Lancaster is offering a way to enjoy the views without sitting outside in the cold.

Perched 12 floors above downtown Lancaster, The Exchange at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square has set up private, heated dining globes with clear panels offering views of the city. The enclosed spaces, known as Alpenglobes, can accommodate two to eight people for dinner, drinks or a small gathering.

Each globe includes seating, seasonal décor and a curated playlist, with a dedicated host serving the group. The transparent walls allow diners to take in the city views while remaining sheltered from the winter weather.

The experience could make for a different kind of date night or an outing with friends, particularly for those interested in exploring Lancaster's downtown restaurants and nightlife. Unlike a typical restaurant reservation, each globe is reserved exclusively for one group during its two-hour booking.

Rentals cost $100 per globe, with food and drinks ordered separately from The Exchange's menu. The rooftop restaurant serves dishes such as wood-fired pizzas and shareable small plates, along with cocktails and other beverages.

The Exchange's Alpenglobe experience is restricted to people ages 21 and older, and identification is required. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve reservations carry a $500 food-and-beverage minimum.

The Alpenglobes are available for seasonal reservations through the winter. Bookings can be made through the Experiences section of OpenTable, where available dates and times are listed.
