Philadelphia City Council will hold hearings about extending SEPTA's subway system with a new line to the Northeast section of the city. A resolution to discuss the proposal was introduced by Sixth District Councilmember Mike Driscoll, who was joined by 12 other cosponsors. Momentum for the large-scale project could build in the aftermath of the tanker-truck fire that caused a portion of I-95 to collapse in Tacony on Sunday, shutting down the highway.

The site of the tanker-truck fire that collapsed the I-95 bridge in Northeast Philadelphia will be backfilled and paved to create a temporary roadway reconnecting the highway with three lanes traveling in each direction, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced Wednesday morning. The temporary roadway will remain open during the reconstruction of a permanent bridge to replace the collapsed span in the months ahead. No official timeline has been given for each of these phases of the project, which will be fully funded by the federal government.

DaJohn L. Taylor, 20, of Hightstown, Mercer County, is charged with homicide and related offenses in connection with a triple stabbing that happened overnight Sunday at a home near the Wildwood boardwalk, investigators said. Kaiden Braithwaite, 20, of Cliffwood, died of multiple stab wounds. Two others also were stabbed during a fight that broke out after an argument outside the property at 307 E. Magnolia Ave.

PennDOT will provide details Wednesday on its plan to reconstruct the I-95 bridge destroyed by Sunday's tanker truck fire in Northeast Philly, officials said. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll will provide a timeline for the work ahead and share other measures being taken to minimize the impact. Authorities are still working to identify the remains of the driver involved in the crash.

Drexel University and Salus University have signed a merger agreement that will combine the health sciences programs of both universities. Salus University, a private school with a campus in Elkins Park, Montgomery County, specializes in optometry and also has programs in audiology, physician assistant studies, biomedicine, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy and orthotics and prosthetics. Drexel's top health sciences tracks are its medical, biomedical, public health, nursing and health professions programs.

Victor Rodriguez, an 18-year-old senior at Pitman High School, drowned while swimming in Alcyon Lake in Gloucester County, New Jersey on Sunday night, officials said. The high school canceled exams on Monday and brought in emotional support staff to provide services to students. Crews searched the lake for Rodriguez for more than 17 hours before his body was recovered on Monday.

The stars of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will return to Philly on Sept. 23 for an in-person taping event of "The Always Sunny Podcast" at TD Pavilion at the Mann on Sept. 23. The event in Philly will be followed up by another podcast taping at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Oct. 12. A presale for both of the Philly shows and the New York City show will begin Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. ahead of general ticket sales on Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com and the podcast's website.

The southbound lanes of the I-95 overpass in Philly damaged during Sunday's truck fire will need to be demolished, PennDOT officials said. The northbound half of the bridge had fallen Sunday morning while the truck was in flames. Also investigators have found the remains of the truck's driver, who worked for a trucking company in Pennsauken, Camden County.

'Higher Grounds,' a new sci-fi short film about an alien invasion in Philadelphia, gives a comedic look at what might happen if extraterrestrials came to the world and people thought they were trying to help earth avoid a climate catastrophe. The film, which will be screened this weekend at the Lighthouse Film Festival on Long Beach Island in New Jersey, was co-written and produced by South Philly duo Joe Kramer and Christian Sarkis Graham. Kramer previously wrote and directed the award-winning indie short 'Running the Gammatar.'

A great white shark was caught on camera trying to steal a fish from the line of a fisherman who was on a charter boat in Point Pleasant, New Jersey earlier this week. Mike Cavallo captured the moment on his GoPro as the shark tried to eat the black sea bass off his hook. Cavallo shared the video on his YouTube channel M & K Outdoors, which has videos of his adventures with his daughter.
