The Shins are on a nationwide tour marking the 21st anniversary of their debut album, 'Oh, Inverted World,' which changed the fortunes of frontman James Mercer. Ahead of band's tour stop at Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia, Mercer discussed the legacy of the album and how his music has evolved over the years. His other project, Broken Bells, has a new album, 'Into The Blue,' due out Oct. 7.

Pennsylvania man arrested for allegedly buying human body parts online, police say

Jeremy Pauley, 40, of Enola, Pennsylvania, faces multiple criminal charges for allegedly buying human body parts online. Pauley obtained the organs from a woman in Arkansas, who stole them from a mortuary and shipped them to Pennsylvania, according to prosecutors. At Pauley's home, detectives found buckets in his basement that contained human brains, skin, livers, lungs and a heart. Another shipment of body parts was intercepted in Scranton. Authorities said the body parts were the property of the University of Arkansas.

Crozer Health, ChristianaCare merger plan dissolves after months of negotiations

ChristianaCare's plan to purchase Crozer Health in Delaware County will not move forward after months of negotiations ended without an agreement. The Delaware hospital system had planned to acquire Crozer Health's four struggling hospitals from the for-profit Prospect Medical Holdings, with a goal of expanding into Pennsylvania. Crozer Health said Wednesday it still intends to transition back to non-profit status.

Philadelphia's monkeypox data shows that Black residents have the largest number of infections in the city, but are not getting vaccinated at a rate comparable to white residents. The outbreak is exposing problems with the response — including health care inequities and insufficient vaccine supplies — that also plagued the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Former Phillies manager Joe Girardi to join Cubs broadcast team

Former Phillies manager Joe Girardi, who was fired by the team in June, will become a member of the Chicago Cubs broadcasting team with Marquee Sports Network. Girardi, an Illinois native, was drafted by the Cubs in 1986 out of Northwestern University and played sevens seasons with the team during two separate stints.

Eagle flew into engine of Spirit Airlines plane that caught fire on Atlantic City runway, NTSB says

A Spirit Airlines plane that caught fire on a runway in Atlantic City last October was damaged by a nine-pound bald eagle that flew into its right engine, according to an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Four people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation of the aircraft. Bird strikes occur in about 1 of every 2,000 flights, mostly around takeoff, but the vast majority of these incidents are not reported. The deadliest bird strike incident in the U.S. happened in 1960, when an Eastern Airlines flight crashed into Boston Harbor, killing 62 people.

Phoenixville man finds rare purple pearl in clam at Rehoboth Beach restaurant

Scott Overland, a Phoenixville man vacationing with his family in Rehoboth Beach, found a rare purple pearl in a clam appetizer at Salt Air Kitchen & Bar. The upscale restaurant at the Delaware shore destination said the pearl came from a Quahog clam, which produces natural, non-nacreous pearls that can be highly valuable due to their rarity. Overland and his wife plan to have the pearl appraised.

3-year-old girl hospitalized after Pennsylvania restaurant mistakenly served her alcohol

A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in Pittsburgh on Sunday after a chef at a Hibachi steakhouse in Allegheny County accidentally squirted alcohol into the toddler's mouth. The girl's mother, Ashley Cain, said the incident happened when the chef mixed up two bottles, one containing sake and the other pink lemonade. The restaurant has taken ownership of the incident and suspended the chef responsible for the mistake.

'Top Gun' star Miles Teller spotted at Cape May tavern

Miles Teller, who stars alongside Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick," visited the Jersey Shore over the weekend and took a photo with staff at The Ugly Mug tavern in Cape May's Washington Street Mall. Teller, 35, is a native of Downingtown, Chester County and spent parts of his childhood in Pennsylvania and Delaware before moving to Florida. He's starred in a number of action and military movies over the last decade, including "Divergent," "War Dogs" and "Thank Your for Your Service."

Exton's historic Ship Inn, once a stop for George Washington, Andrew Jackson, to be sold

Pennsylvania's historic Ship Inn, a Georgian property built in 1796 in the Exton section of West Whiteland Township, Chester County, reportedly will be sold to new owners who plan to turn the two-story property into a microbrewery. The stone building originally served as an inn and restaurant for travelers on the Lancaster Turnpike, which expanded commerce between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The building has survived as a restaurant under various owners for most of its existence.
