Actress Amber Heard has hired attorneys David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown, of Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia, to represent her in her appeal of the Virginia defamation case involving ex-husband and actor Johnny Depp. In June, a civil jury awarded Depp $10.4 million in compensatory and punitive damages stemming from Heard's allegations of domestic abuse during her marriage to Depp. Heard also was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages on one of her counterclaims.

Philadelphia City Councilmember Allan Domb resigned from office Monday as he considers running for mayor in 2023. Domb was serving his second term in one of City Council's seven at-large seats. A spokesperson for Domb said Monday that he will spend his time listening to Philadelphians and developing practical solutions to the problems and challenges the city is facing.

A golf cart driver was killed Saturday night in a collision with a car at the Loch Nairn Golf Club in Chester County. The man, who was not identified, was ejected from the golf cart and died at the scene near Church and McCue roads.

Philadelphia police officer Ramon Chaulisant, 33, is facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting and making threats against his former girlfriend — the mother of his children — on three occasions this year. Investigators said Chaulisant struck the woman in front of their children, damaged her property and threatened to kill her. He was placed on administrative duty and had his service weapon confiscated prior to his arrest last week.

Sea Isle City is implementing a ban on shark fishing from its shoreline, Mayor Leonard Desiderio announced this week. The decision comes after a recent uptick in anglers targeting sharks from the beaches, creating fear that more dangerous species will come closer to shore. The new rules prohibit shark fishing in, on or near the beaches — and within 600 feet of the shoreline. The use of drones to spot sharks and other practices to lure them also are prohibited.

Wawa confirmed this week that it will no longer have 24-hour service at its Center City store in Franklintown at 20th and Hamilton streets. The store is the latest in downtown Philadelphia that has either closed or reduced its hours in recent years. Meanwhile, the Delaware County-based convenience store chain plans to double its total store county by 2030, with an expansion deeper into Pennsylvania and several new states.

Two people were killed and 17 others injured Tuesday night when a Megabus traveling from New York City to Philadelphia crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crashed happened around 7 p.m. as the bus traveled through Woodbridge Township. The bus collided with a Ford F-150 truck before striking a guardrail and overturning near the Thomas Edison Service Plaza. Three other people, including the bus driver, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Director and New Jersey native Kevin Smith said he was informed that the Atlantic Moviehouse, a historic theater he and several partners have agreed to purchase, received a warning by phone on Monday that the property will face bomb threats if the sale is finalized. The "Clerks" and "Mallrats" director plans to turn the theater into SModcastle Cinemas, which will continue to screen movies, host live events and debut a film school in the future.

Drexel University is creating a new program that will provide a 50% tuition discount for community college graduates from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Drexel Promise program is designed to make four-year degree programs more attainable for students who already hold an associate degree from an accredited two-year college.
