The 2022 U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania is a pivotal battleground in the United States. The May 17 primary will set up November's general election for the seat previously held by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who is retiring from politics. John Fetterman and Conor Lamb are the leading candidates among Democrats, while Mehmet Oz, Dave McCormick and Kathy Barnette are in a tight race for the Republican ticket.

Robert Sanger, 62, of Pittsgrove, New Jersey, died on May 2 at Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City. Sanger fell from a lift after a concrete slab collapsed underneath him. The accident is being investigated by OSHA.

The Philadelphia Zoo added three Ankole-Watusi cattle, a domesticated African breed known for its enormous, crescent-shaped horns, to its African Plains exhibit. The Ankole are descendants of Egyptian long-horned cattle that once lived along the Nile River around 4000 BC. The animals are primarily kept for dairy milk and are not usually raised for meat. They are friendly, gentle creatures found among herders in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo and parts of Tanzania.

During its Mother's Day flower sale, St. Anselm School, a Catholic grade school in far Northeast Philly, accidentally sold artificial roses with thongs folded inside each flower's petals. The flowers were mistakenly purchased. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia apologized for the accident and said the matter remains under review.

Netflix's 'Hustle,' staring Adam Sandler as a 76ers scout, premieres on the streaming platform June 8. The movie, filmed in Philadelphia and the surrounding region, is Sandler's character attempting to jumpstart the NBA career of a troubled overseas prospect while saving his own job. Scenes were shot at locations in Center City, the Italian Market, North Philly, South Philly, Manayunk, Chester, Coatesville and Camden.

Three people were killed early Tuesday morning when an SUV crashed into SEPTA's Allegheny Station along the Market-Frankford Line, police said. Two pedestrians were killed and a third was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV, who was speeding before he lost control of his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. SEPTA temporarily detoured service, but has since fully reopened the station. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

TV cameras caught a man sleeping courtside during the Sixers 116-108 playoff win against the Miami Heat on Sunday night. He is David Kelleher, owner of David Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM in Glen Mills. He explained that he'd had a long weekend and four vodka tonics at the game briefly put him in dreamland, leading to a viral meme. The Sixers and Heat are now tied 2-2 in the NBA Eastern Conference Semifinal series.

Anthony Lucidonio and Nicholas Lucidonio, the father-son duo behind South Philly cheesesteak shop Tony Luke's, pleaded guilty Monday to federal charges in a tax evasion scheme that lasted from 2006-2016. Attorneys for the Lucidonios said the restaurant at Oregon Avenue and Front Street will remain open.

A great white shark was tracked off the coast of New Jersey on April 28 by OCEARCH, a non-profit research organization that leads expeditions and follows the movements of dozens of sharks in order to better understand their behavior. Ironbound, a 1,000 pound shark measuring 12 feet 4 inches, was first tagged by the organization in 2019.

Bucks County prosecutors say Trinh Nguyen, the woman accused killing her two sons last week at their home in Upper Makefield, left a handwritten will at the scene that indicated she planned the shooting more than a week in advance. The boys, 9 and 13, were pronounced dead Monday and the the charges against Nguyen were upgraded to first-degree murder and other offenses.
