Dead rat painted with line stripe on MLK Drive is 'unacceptable work,' Streets Department says

The Philadelphia Streets Department expressed dissatisfaction with the work of a city contractor whose line striping machine ran over a rat while completing work on Martin Luther King Drive, a spokesperson said. The animal was left in the roadway and later photographed by a bicyclist.

Philadelphia high school football player collapses, dies before scrimmage in Coatesville

A football player at Philadelphia's West Catholic Preparatory High School died after collapsing on the field ahead of a 7-on-7 scrimmage in Coatesville on Tuesday night, according to the Chester County Coroner's Office. The student, a junior, was identified as 16-year-old Ivan Hicks. An autopsy to determine the cause of Hicks' death is scheduled for Friday.

Construction on new Coatesville train station to start later this year, PennDOT says

PennDOT officials are accepting bids for the long-anticipated Coatesville train station project, which will feature a new station and multimodal parking garage in the Chester County city. Construction on the project is expected to begin in late fall 2021, with a completion date targeted in 2025.

Pennsylvania could become the first state in the country to give serious consideration to a 25-cent package tax for all deliveries, a measure currently being discussed as an approach to covering transportation and infrastructure funding shortfalls. Just in time for Shark Week, a behemoth great white made a stop off the Cape May coast

As shark week continues, nonprofit research organization OCEARCH reported that a large male great white shark was tracked off the coast of Cape May, New Jersey on July 12. The sharked, named Breton, is one of several OCEARCH has been following and received pings along the New Jersey coast over the past several years.

Montgomery County high school athletic trainer allegedly supplied teens alcohol before fatal DUI crash

A former athletic trainer at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown is facing criminal charges for allegedly providing alcohol to four teenagers who were involved in a car crash in Chester County last summer, Montgomery County prosecutors said. Kelsey Martin, 35, was charged in connection with the crash in North Coventry, Chester County, where 18-year-old Louis Carbajal died from his injuries. The driver, 18-year-old Connor Quinn, was charged with homicide by vehicle in the DUI crash.

Former U.S. Attorney William McSwain plans to run for governor of Pennsylvania in 2022 and is seeking the support of former President Donald Trump. In a letter, McSwain told Trump that he was discouraged from pursuing allegations of voter fraud and irregularities in Pennsylvania last November by former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr.
