Man dies in construction accident at Amazon warehouse property in North Philly, police say

A 29-year-old man died Tuesday in a construction accident at an Amazon warehouse in North Philadelphia, police said. The worker was trapped underground when a retaining wall collapsed and the surface caved under him. Heavy machinery was used to free the victim after nearly an hour. The man was taken to Temple University, where he was pronounced dead.

Murder-for-hire plot thwarted in Southwest Philadelphia, prosecutors say

Federal authorities have charged 47-year-old Darnell Jackson in an alleged murder-for-hire plot in Southwest Philadelphia. Jackson's plans were discovered in the course of a state drug trafficking investigation, according to prosecutors, and Jackson allegedly expressed interest in having multiple people killed.

Gunman in Pat's King of Steaks shooting will claim self-defense, attorney says

Paul Burkert, the man charged with homicide in a fatal shooting outside Pat's King of Steaks in South Philadelphia, will claim he fired his weapon in self-defense, attorney Chuck Peruto said. Burkert, 36, of Reading, was charged last week in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old David Padro outside the cheesesteak shop.

Jacquelyn Walker, 63, of New Jersey, is charged with vehicular homicide while DUI for the July 24 crash on I-76 that killed Lower Merion firefighter Thomas Royds along with injuring two other Lower Merion firefighters and a Pennsylvania State Trooper, who were on the highway after responding to an earlier DUI-related crash.

Delaware man snuck hidden cameras inside King of Prussia Mall changing rooms, police say

Joseph Stevenson, 26, of Smyrna, Delaware, allegedly placed hidden cameras inside fitting rooms at Hollister and Urban Outfitters stores at the King of Prussia Mall, Upper Merion Township police said. The two cameras, hidden inside pens, were discovered on July 3 and allegedly contained images of eight women and one man. Stevenson is charged with invasion of privacy and other offenses.

Amish teen's killer gets lengthy prison sentence in plea deal

Justo Smoker, 35, will serve decades in prison for the abduction and murder of 18-year-old Linda Stoltzfoos, an Amish teenager who went missing from her Lancaster County community in June 2020. Smoker pleaded guilty in order to avoid the death penalty and led investigators to the teen's body in April, ending a 10-month search.
