A North Philadelphia improvement project aims to enhance public spaces and streets at the intersection of Broad Street, Erie Avenue and Germantown Avenue, as well as the intersection of Broad Street and Butler Street. The city is seeking feedback from residents on which of three designs would be preferred by the public.

Three Philly companies make list of 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania

Three Philadelphia-based businesses — The Graham Company, McCormick Taylor, Inc. and Urban Engineers — made the 2020 list of the top 100 places to work in Pennsylvania. The list was chosen through a collaboration between the non-profit Team Pennsylvania, the Central Penn Business Journal and the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

Philly to launch maps app that tracks trash, recycling collection

Philadelphia will launch the PHLPickUp app on Oct. 1, giving residents an interactive tool to track and monitor trash and recycling pickup in real-time. Collection services have been delayed for much of 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused increased residential tonnage and worker absenteeism.

Philadelphia's Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley pointed to COVID-19 outbreaks in Europe as a reminder that the virus retains the potential to surge. As case counts fall in Philadelphia ahead of an uncertain winter, Farley repeated the importance of mask wearing as the best defense against spreading the coronavirus.

Philly unveils final layout for Washington Avenue improvement project

Philadelphia will repave and improve Washington Avenue from Fourth Street to Grays Ferry Avenue in 2021. A plan selected after extensive public feedback will switch from five traffic lanes to three, adding more protection for cyclists. The city expects to begin the project next summer.

Pennsylvania's 'naked ballot' ruling will 'cause electoral chaos,' Philly commissioner warns

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court that ruled that "naked ballots," or those without a second "secrecy envelope," will be thrown away and not counted in the 2020 election. Philadelphia City Commissioner Lisa Deeley warned in a letter to state lawmakers that this could result in as many as 100,000 votes being tossed if the requirement isn't removed.

Philly aims to open 17 early voting locations across city

Philadelphia City Commissioners will consider opening 17 satellite election offices that would allow city residents to vote early and complete other services in one place for the 2020 election. The proposed offices, including Temple University's Liacouras Center, would be open seven days a week from Sept. 29 through the Nov. 3 election.

Boston Market plans to add five Philadelphia area locations in the fall, part of an aggressive expansion across the United States. The chain was acquired in April by Engage Brands, a company based out of Newtown Township, Bucks County.
