Summer of Winona continues with screening of '80s 'Heathers'

Winona Forever

If finishing "Stranger Things" on Netflix has left an Eggo-shaped hole in your heart, then this event may help. Schmidt's Commons is promising more '80s and more Winona at the next free movie night on Aug. 25.

Over the past 30 years, Winona Ryder has solidified her star status by playing the potential bride of Beetlejuice, a blond cheerleader, a psychiatric hospital patient and a Christmas light-wearing stressed-out mom, among other iconic roles.

One of her most popular performances was as Veronica in the 1988 cult classic "Heathers." The film is a darkly funny satire on high school.

Veronica is part of the popular high school clique Heathers but is fed up with their meanness. She finds a venting outlet in new boyfriend JD but soon realizes he's a sociopath after she unintentionally helps him make suicide a high school fad.

"Heathers" will begin at 8 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the free show.

How very.
