Capping off an academic year unlike any other, Citadel Credit Union honored 21 Greater Philadelphia teachers on Thursday, May 20, as the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards were announced — including three Grand Prize winners.

The Grand Prize winners were:

• Michelle Sinnamon of Manavon Elementary School in Phoenixville (Elementary School)
• Dian McKinney of Kennett Middle School in Kennett (Middle School)
• Stephanie Shrake of Avon Grove High School in Avon Grove (High School)

In addition to being honored during the ceremony, all 21 teachers received a glass-blown heart award and $500 to spend in their classrooms. The Grand Prize winners each received an additional $1,500 and a unique, colorful Grand Prize glass-blown heart.

Teachers from throughout Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties were recognized after being nominated by their students, peers, parents, and school administrators. Started 20 years ago in partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), the awards recognize educators who show dedication inside and outside the classroom and who truly go above and beyond the call of duty. This has never been more important — or truer — than during the 2020-2021 school year, which was so directly impacted by the pandemic.
