Best jobs in America for 2015 - and how they rate in Philly

Do you have one of the best jobs in America? 

Glassdoor named its "25 Best Jobs in America for 2015" based off three factors: earning potential, career opportunities and the number of job openings.

Physician's assistant

Topping the list is physician's assistant, which has an average base salary of $111,376 and 45,484 jobs nationwide. But in Philadelphia, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, physician's assistants earn $78,950. Philly has the fourth highest level of employment for the professionals in the nation — and the position is in demand. The Pennsylvania Workforce Development projects a 22.8 percent increase in demand for the job by 2016.

Software engineer

Software engineers are second on Glassdoor's  list. The national average base salary is $98,074, but averages out around $88,000 in Philly. The number of jobs in Philadelphia is expected to grow by 42.1 percent.

Database administrator

Database administrators, while seventh on the list, are in demand in the City of Brotherly Love. The average base salary, nationally, is $97,835 and more than $76,000 here. Job growth is projected to be 24.5 percent. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics lists Philadelphia as the ninth largest employer for this occupation.

Human resources manager

Human resources managers earn a $96,443 base salary nationwide, but average $151,600 in Philly — the second highest-paying city nationwide for the job. Meanwhile, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Trenton has the highest concentration of human resources managers.

Finance manager

Philadelphia is also a well paying city to be a finance manager, which Glassdoor lists as the fifth best job to have in America. The annual mean wage, the Bureau of Labor and Statistics says, is $150,510, compared with a base salary of $122,865 nationwide.
