The Doylestown Arts Festival will fill downtown Doylestown with more than 170 artists, five stages of live music and hands-on activities when it returns for its 35th year this September.
The free, two-day street festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The event will be held rain or shine.
More than 170 juried artists from the region and beyond will set up throughout downtown, selling work that includes paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photography, glass, sculpture, fiber art, printmaking and woodworking. Attendees also will have opportunities to meet artists and watch some of them work.
Art won't be the only thing filling the streets. Five stages will host live music throughout the weekend, with a lineup spanning rock, jazz, indie, pop and acoustic music.
There will be plenty for kids and families to do between browsing the artist booths. Activities and demonstrations include pottery making, glassblowing, face painting, sand art, spin art and stamping. Artists also will hold live demonstrations at their booths throughout the festival.
Food vendors will be set up in the Dommel Way parking lot, serving options including barbecue, Cajun food, crepes, vegan dishes, Puerto Rican food and crab cakes. A beer garden will be located in the Pine Street parking lot. Downtown Doylestown's restaurants and bars will also be open throughout the festival.
On Sunday, the Bucks County Classic will add bicycle racing to the weekend, with races taking place on a 1.4-mile circuit surrounding the arts festival.
The festival began in 1991 as a one-block event organized by local volunteers. Now celebrating its 35th year, the festival draws more than 20,000 people to Doylestown each year.
Anyone driving to the festival should plan ahead. Much of downtown Doylestown will be closed to traffic, and street parking is expected to fill quickly. Free parking will be available at several designated locations, including the Union Street and Court Street garages, CB West High School and Lenape Middle School.
Free Doylestown Dart shuttles will run between designated parking areas and the festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. SEPTA's Doylestown Regional Rail station also is located a few blocks from the festival grounds.
