Woman reportedly killed in Delaware Rt. 273 crash fighting for life

A woman who was believed to have died in Tuesday morning's crash on Rt. 273 in New Castle is fighting for her life, Delaware State Police said.

The crash happened at 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of westbound Rt. 273 (Christiana Road) and Airport Road.

A female driver was initially reported to have died in the crash. However, thanks to lifesaving efforts by New Castle County paramedics, she has been admitted to Christiana Hospital in extremely critical condition, police said.

There were no other reported injuries.

As a result of the crash, the westbound lanes of Rt. 273 at Airport Road were closed. Officials said there was also a lane restriction on southbound Airport Road approaching Rt. 273. 

Commuters were asked to find alternate routes around the scene.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was on the scene, and an investigation ongoing.
