Chester High School was temporarily on lockdown Tuesday morning after reports of a possible gunman.

Police responded to the school on the 200 block of W. 9th St. in Delaware County after a student witnessed another student put an object that appeared to be a gun inside a backpack, Chester-Upland School District spokeswoman Becky Taylor said.

Taylor said responding police did a room-to-room search of the school.

"It turns out it was not a real gun," Taylor said. "It was just a toy and the lockdown was immediately lifted."

The lockdown lasted about one hour.

One person was taken into custody and is being questioned. No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
