Make a difference in the community this holiday season with simple gesture

Create holiday cards for the homeless

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission wants Philadelphians to jump into the spirit of giving this holiday season. The organization that aids Philly's homeless and disadvantaged brings back its annual card drive on Dec. 1.

Philadelphians are asked to help make a difference in their community by writing Christmas cards to the homeless. Whether it's a handmade card or the store-bought variety, a personal note of encouragement should be inside.

Worried about writer's block? Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission offers an example of what to say:

Happy Holidays!
Though times are tough, I pray you have a Merry Christmas.
Don't lose hope. Remember you are loved.
Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Mail cards by Thursday, Dec. 15, to Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission. Cards need to be in by Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the latest to guarantee homeless individuals receive them Christmas Day.

"We want our homeless brothers and sisters to know they are valued, loved, and not forgotten this holiday season," states a press release on the initiative.
