Man run over, killed while lying in street in Tacony

A man was run over and killed by a vehicle early Friday morning in Tacony, NBC10 reports.

The incident occurred along the 6800 block of Torresdale Ave. around 3 a.m.

Several drivers, including a SEPTA bus driver, reportedly came across the man lying in the street prior to the incident.

"He was semi-conscious, he was groggy," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10. "Witnesses don't know whether this male was intoxicated or suffering from some sort of medical problem."

While the bystanders were attempting to wake the man, a Pontiac Grand Am sedan came down the street. The other drivers tried to flag him down, but couldn't catch the driver's attention.

The vehicle ran over the man, killing him, Small said. The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at Aria Torresdale Hospital.

The man was not carrying ID and has not yet been identified.

Charges against the driver are not expected, NBC10 reports.

The incident remains under investigation.
